I think Shabbir should join the rest of his terrorist buddies fighting US
forces in Iraq.  Hopefully he will meet his "peaceful god"  face to face.

Steve,

i'll start by saying that i'm not liberal, left, right, conservative or any other of
that nonsense. what i am is a father. my concerns are with my childrens future.
how that relates to this mail is; what's with bushs' "national day of prayer". our
kids can't say a prayer in school, no christian religion articles allowed in public
places and yet we are to take that day of prayer blasmephy that came out of his
mouth seriously? is church and state still seperate? it seems everything bush
SAYS is divine oriented and yet everything he DOES is just the opposite. with
all the lies regarding the invasion of iraq (wmd's, terrorism etc.), and we DO
know they were lies, what are we to think about anything he says? is this day of
prayer just another one of his attempts at propaganda? it seems he constantly
does idiotic things and then gives great oratory to distract from the real facts.
the incompetence of our government at all levels has been revealed on a global
scale and all he can do is make a national day of it. the bush administration is an
ineffective embarrasment to us all. it's no wonder the real terrorist don't mind
him being in charge because everything he does fuels their cause. not only is he
an incompetent nitwit, but he's a dangerous incompetent nitwit. oh yeah, what
kind of president of the most powerful nation in the world gives the middle
finger to reporters knowing the world will see it? my guess is he's lost his mind.

Jeffrey Van Dunk

Mr. Van Dunk "guesses" that President Bush has lost his mind.  After
reading this email I am "sure" that Mr. Van Dunk has lost his.  By the way,
I do not edit letters sent to me.  I post them here as received.

Dear Steve,

I don't know if you  have a extremely refined sense of sarcasm.  Your columns
are so outraged  I do not believe  that you help the conservative cause.

If you are a liberal , well only the smartest people will understand.  Your
columns appear to me like the gentile man  in the commercial who wants to drill
for oil in the wild live refuge and says it is natural  to do so because the  duvet
of the wild geese will soak up the oil spill.

If  by hazard you are a follower of pat Robertson  well you may need  to pray.
And if you do all that for a  good laugh well sometime it backfires.

Robert

I'm at a loss for words here.....Me a liberal?

Steve

Dear Steve,

I would like to comment on your article relating to Cindy Sheehan.
You lack of any real feelings towards this woman is astonishing.
She, more so than you, has a right to protest this war. Her son died
in it. She is not sitting at home from the comfort of her living room
writing a column as part of the war effort. If you believe so strongly
in this war; why are you not over there fighting it?

It is clear that you have strong ideological differences with Mrs
Sheehan. However, you make no attempt whatsoever to feel her pain. You
dismiss her as nothing even though she is a Mother who is probably in
the midst of agonising grief over her son. Yes her protest is
personal. Why shouldn't it be? She is coming at this from a personal
perspective.

The ease at which you and your fellow right-wing commentators can
demonise her demonstrates a complete lack of intellectual consistency.
On the one hand you absolutely have full respect for the military
families. This respect is conditional upon their support for the war.
fact is that there is no uniformity of opinion when it comes to the
war. There will always be those who have different views, vis-a-vis
the ethical concerns over the war. You just come out and bash this
woman because she represents a threat to your point! Have some respect
and please try and refrain from stigmatising a woman in pain.
How many children have you lost at war? my guess is probably none!

Regards
Stephen

I would be fighting the war, but am now too old.  In fact I tried to re-enlist
after 9-11 but was told no by the recruiters.  I have been out of the military
for 14 years after serving 12 years in the US Navy.

I feel Mrs. Sheehan's pain, but she is using her pain for a liberal anti-war
agenda, all the while being used by the left and the liberal media.  For this I
am sorry.

Dear Steve.

We have enough right wing and evangelical kooks in this country butting into
people's private affairs without you cheer leading them from Russia.

The "corrupt" judicial, as you so eloquently stated, was following the law of the
United States of America and the US Constitution.  If that is not agreeable with
you, too bad.  Blaming liberals for this is something we have grown accustomed
to, believe me!  We are blamed for EVERYTHING by the religious right and
the neocon war mongers in our government.

Murder?  Terri Schaivo was already dead.  She died 15 years ago at her own
hand by starving herself.  The media circus and the uneducated meddling
comments such as yours, was the real crime here, not the decision that was
made.

Terri Schaivo is at peace now thanks to the fair laws of our great country that
allow people to make difficult and PRIVATE decisions about their loved ones.

Why don't you write a column about the Shindlers and how much money they
made off of their brain dead daughter?  Better yet, don't write anymore on the
subject, it's as dead as Terri.

Sincerely,

Jamie Kelly/USA

Sorry, Terri was very much alive until she was starved to death. By the way,
I live in New Orleans.  I just write for Pravda.

Dear Steve

I am trying to imagine pre-Magna Carta England. It gives me hope that we may
be able to save this present world. I however have chosen to do it from the
safety of my basement. And even at that I am beginning to think I am pushing
my luck. Cowards die many times before their death.. . Below you will find my
piece- played off yours. Good luck to you in your battle. Use it as you wish.
Final word. The biggest obstacle to peace in this world is a second rate
American education system purposely dummied down to produce citizens who
know nothing of the world and couldn't cafe less.

Your reasoning about "cuffing" seems good. The need is certainly there.  Why
don't we use your "Cuffing" methods to find out the truth about Enron, Martha
Stewart,  and every other white collar criminal in the USA.  Think of all the
billions of dollars these guys are costing the USA. The fall of great powers
never happens from the outside; it is the internal rot that finally does them in.

Let's get the real guys who are ruining America and the world before it is too
late. Stop worrying about the loss of 3, 000 people in 9-11, sad as it was,
because the big industrial polluters, gasoline exhaust, and the ruined
environment are killing millions of Americans right now. Heck we lose 1,000
people a week in car accidents and hand gun murders. Let's find out why we
allow this. Let's give the real bad guys the cuff treatment and forget about a
bunch of relatively harmless "terrorists". Let's find out the truth about the huge
rip-off contracts in Iraq and Afghanistan and all over the world. Let's go after
the guys who are keeping the average American poor and the average
non-American diseased, starved and hopeless.

Speaking of internal rot,  let's find out the truth about the Bush family. Why is it
that this former Nazi supporting family is now worth billions? And how about
Colin Powel,  Henry Kissinger and Robert McNamara:  what could they tell is
about how America has gone wrong?  How about Dick Cheney, Richard Pearle,
and Connie Rice? In fifteen minutes of "cuffing" we would quickly be able to
put America back on the straight path. How could the most generous, trusting,
honest people in the world have a government that has destroyed the UN and
the World Court, corrupted NATO and the World Bank, have more people
behind bars and on death row than the rest of the world combined, have 30
million people living in poverty, and have less than 1% of its population own
most of its wealth ?

Let's use your methods to find out where America has gone wrong before it is
too late.  Anyone running for office or in a power position should have a little
"cuffing"-it would make the USA a much better place in about a week. It
wouldn't hurt to have the media, Hollywood movie makers  and the press
undergo the same treatment. Great idea.

Bruce Mullen

You would think liberals could come up with some new material.  I bet I
have heard liberals compare President Bush to Hitler a million times.  Come
on, I need some originality here.....
